An obvious truth about tomorrow´s cars is that they will need to weigh less. Much less. This cannot, however, be allowed to compromise safety. Cars will still need to be safe, as well as drivable, affordable, and attractive, or there will be no future at all for them. These factors all provide intriguing challenges, since the environmental aspect will have to be integrated with all the other aspects.
The Next Generation Vehicle Project focuses on improving car safety, while at the same time developing a concept for much improved sustainability. Stainless materials are not only 100% recyclable, which means they can be used for the exact same things over and over again. Even more importantly, the innovative combination of features in the materials truly creates new opportunities for the car industry. Using natural resources much more productively, i e efficiently, will be both profitable and better for the environment.
